President John Dramani Mahama has officially opened the Ghana AgroTech Fair 2026 at the Black Star Square, reaffirming his administration’s commitment to transforming the country’s agricultural sector through innovation, technology, and local capacity development.
The three-day event, organised by the Ghana Export-Import Bank, has brought together key stakeholders across agribusiness, technology, and research. The fair aims to foster collaboration, drive productivity, and attract investment into Ghana’s agricultural value chain.
Following the opening ceremony, President Mahama toured various exhibition stands, engaging with exhibitors showcasing cutting-edge technologies and locally developed solutions designed to modernise farming practices. The displays highlighted innovations in mechanisation, irrigation, agro-processing, and digital agriculture, all geared toward enhancing efficiency and sustainability.
In his address, President Mahama underscored the critical role of agriculture as a pillar of Ghana’s economic transformation. He stressed the importance of prioritising homegrown innovations to boost productivity, reduce dependence on imported systems, and empower local entrepreneurs within the sector.
As part of this broader agenda, the President announced plans to break ground on the first phase of the Farmer Service Centre initiative on Friday at Afram Plains. The flagship programme will see the establishment of 50 centres nationwide, providing farmers with access to mechanisation services, training, and extension support.
The Ghana AgroTech Fair 2026, held under the theme “Transforming Agribusiness through Local Innovation and Technology,” sets a forward-looking tone for the sector. It emphasizes the transition from ideas to enterprise, innovation to investment, and positions agriculture as a sustainable engine for national growth and prosperity.
